Dr. Lucas M. Abreu is joining our team as a postdoctoral researcher. Lucas has a unique multidisciplinary academic profile - he holds PhD in Chemistry (UFMG), MSc in Agricultural microbiology (UFLA) and BSc in Agronomy (UFLA).
Lucas will be conducting research in our Fusarium-related projects especially focusing on phylogenetic analysis. He is strongly interested in questions regarding species concepts, phylogenetic species recognition, and chemotaxonomic distribution of secondary metabolites in ascomycetes. Lucas is skilled in different methods for fungal characterization and classification including morphology, DNA-based phylogenetic analyses, secondary metabolite profiling using HPLC-DAD and LC-MS, and MALDI-TOF MS-based species identification. Prior to joining our Lab, Lucas spent one year as a postdoctoral associate in the research group of Prof. Thomas Ostenfeld Larsen (Technical University of Denmark, DTU), working with the biosynthesis of nonribosomal peptides produced by black Aspergilla.
We welcome Lucas and wish him a pleasant stay in Viçosa and a productive time in our Lab.
